International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO)

What is IESO ?

The Geological Society of India will be conducting an objective-type entrance test (ET) to select about 20 students to attend a training camp in earth sciences during the summer of 2013. Four students will be finally chosen from among the training camp participants who will represent India at the 10th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO)-2015.

IESO is an annual earth science competition for secondary school students. It is one of the major activities of the International Geoscience Education Organization that aims at raising student interest in and public awareness of earth sciences, as well as to enhance earth science learning of students. It also aims to forge friendly relationships among young learners from different countries and foster international cooperation in exchanging ideas and materials about earth science and earth science education.


Students of IX , X, XI and XII standards who were born between 1st July 1997 and who have not won a medal in an earlier IESO.

Duration: 90 Min.

Language : English.

Type of questions : Multiple-choice questions.

Certificates and Awards:

The 20 students selected for the Training Camp will be awarded Certificates of Participation. The four students selected for the IESO will be awarded Certificates of Merit and Cash Prizes (Rs. 5,000/- each). Olympiad medallists will be felicitated at Mumbai in December, 2013 with cash prizes of Rs. 15,000/- each by Infosys Foundation. The function is organised every year on the birthday of the great mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujam.This year (2015-16) IESO to be held at JAPAN
